Ms. Rebecca Pousson is the executive associate dean for the VCU School of Dentistry where she manages and directs the finance, facilities, human resources, clinic operations, quality assurance and regulatory compliance teams.  Since arriving at VCU in 2008, Ms. Pousson has designed and implemented the S.T.A.R.S. program, an employee centered program, which focuses on developing the employees into “owners” and then rewarding them for their contributions. She has also worked diligently to design and implement a compensation system for the DDS faculty, to reward increased time contributions and efficiency enhancements. A major effort has been to assign measured goals to the various staff groups that work with faculty and students. These efforts have had a significant impact in the profitability for these clinics. Ms. Pousson continues to work with the staff, faculty and students to develop new processes to improve patient treatment and satisfaction.

Prior to her tenure at VCU, she worked at Louisiana State University, where she proudly helped the dental school continue operations after Hurricane Katrina and worked with FEMA and the leadership team at LSUHSC to restore the New Orleans buildings to workable condition. Ms. Pousson also worked with the faculty and staff of LSU School of Dentistry to improve clinical efficiency and patient satisfaction. She created and implemented TIGER CARE, a reward system similar to the S.T.A.R.S. program. She also designed a Private Practice Model for the senior dental students that would simulate every aspect of owning and operating a private practice. This model was implemented at LSU in the 2003 academic year and was responsible for increasing clinic revenue $1.6 million over the first two years and was projected to earn $1.2 million additional in 2005. Katrina changed the entire operation of the dental school, including the student clinic model.  Ms. Pousson is an active volunteer. Among many commitments, she is the Treasurer of the Virginia Oral Health Coalition.

Ms. Pousson has bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business management as well as an associate’s degree in dental hygiene. Her master’s degree is in business administration.
