About Our Department

The Department of General Practice at Virginia Commonwealth University exhibits the profile of a dynamic, experienced, devoted and diverse faculty. This department embraces the uniqueness of individuals and the belief that the learning process continues throughout life. This is based on a sincere love and respect for all. We are dedicated to improving oral health while fostering the quest of knowledge and advancing the education process. This department is comprised of staff personnel, full time professors and the support of numerous community based adjunct faculty members committed to the pursuit of these ideals.

Our dedicated full-time faculty is comprised of 10 male and 7 female professors with a combined experience of over 300 years in dentistry. They have been involved for 225 years as both graduate and undergraduate dental educators. 10 post doctoral degrees have been awarded as well as 10 specialty degrees. 10 Advanced Education in General Dentistry programs and General Practice Residencies have been completed. Over 130 years have be in the field of public health dentistry through government service. We range from nearly 30 years of age to over 60 years of age and have come from many different countries with fluency in many languages.

We value the experience of patient care clinicians as well as the commitment to research. Our teaching methods include the latest technologies and are as basic as the human touch with sponsorships of local and international humanitarian dental missions. The Department of General Practice believes that our strength comes from the composite of our experiences. We are dedicated to providing the best of care for our patients, the best of educational experiences for our students and the most stimulating and satisfying environment for our colleagues and staff.
