Sign up for Virginia’s one of a kind Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide course for Dental Hygienists. The didactic
sessions are taught by the full time faculty members of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This course has a
comfortable and easy learning format; learn with your colleagues in classroom style with plenty of opportunity to ask questions
of the presenter when you want to. Talk among your colleagues while you are learning and compare notes along the way. This
is the best way to learn. Be prepared to have a whole new experience in school and a CE course that you won’t forget!
This course provides instruction on both local anesthesia and nitrous oxide in a 36 hour format. It includes 23 hours
didactic lecture sessions with interactive group-participation quizzes, 10 hours of hands-on clinical applications under
faculty supervision, and 2 hours of written examinations with group review and discussion of answers, and a 1-hour written
comprehensive evaluation for certification of course completion.
Topics covered include pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, medical emergencies, legal considerations, and techniques for
administration of local anesthetic to the maxilla and mandible. Participants will receive clinical instruction under direct
faculty supervision and will complete in-class evaluation quizzes to meet Board of Dentistry requirements for certification.
This course provides instruction on both local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration.
