In the Department of General Practice are general dentists
who serve in the role similar to the primary care physician in
medicine. Most patients have a general dentist who is
responsible for their overall dental care. All of the members
of the department have training and experience beyond dental
school. Aside from providing care, the most important function
of the general dentist is to recognize when a patient needs a
referral to a specialist. We are fortunate in that we have all
of the specialties located within the school so that referrals
are easy and communication is readily available.
