Dr. Ralph L. Anderson graduated from Virginia State University in 1960. He then served in the U.S. Army as an artillery officer in the 101st Airborne Division and as a Medical Service Corps officer for six years prior to attending the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Upon completion of the program, he re-entered the Army and served as a dental intern at Fort Bragg, N.C. This experience resulted in Dr. Anderson’s interest in orthodontics. Once again, he returned to the School of Dentistry, now housed at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating from the orthodontics program in 1975. He joined the faculty as a full-time instructor in the Department of Orthodontics before establishing his practice in Richmond, Va.
Dr. Anderson is a member of the America Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Old Dominion Dental Society, and several other dental organizations and study clubs. He is a Fellow in the American College of Dentists and has lectured to students as well as various study clubs and dental societies. Dr. Anderson has practiced orthodontics for thirty years and now has three offices in Richmond, where he practices with his son Dr. Ralph H.B. (Chip) Anderson, also a graduate of VCU’s School of Dentistry. Honored in 1999 as a VCU Alumni Star, Dr. Anderson continues his involvement with the orthodontics department and its resident program as a part-time instructor, a role he has enjoyed for over twenty-five years.
