Overview

The VCU/VAGD MasterTrack CE Program consists of 400 hours of participation-type continuing dental education and uses the protocol format outlined in the current AGD MasterTrack Manual 2004. Participants desiring the AGD's full Mastership recognition must complete an additional 200 hours of continuing dental education through other courses.

MasterTrack courses will be scheduled in two sessions of 25 clock-hours each per year, with each session beginning on a Thursday at mid-day and ending on Sunday at mid-day. Credit hours per session will be 50 hours, consisting of 25 hours of case reports by participants, on-site lectures and hands-on participation in AGD-designated topics, and 25 hours of off-site/in-office assignments between sessions. The entire program of 400 participation hours can be completed in eight sessions over four years.

Learning Activities

Lecture

Traditional lecture format and setting. There is no limit to how many participants can attend.

Participation

Active hands-on participation in a laboratory or clinical setting. Over 30% of the on-site hours will be hands-on.

Protocol

Completion of off-site, in-office assignments while not under the direct supervision of an instructor. Credit is awarded for assigned self-study and hands-on work, and case reports regarding patient care. Half of the hours will be of the homework assignment protocol type.

Curriculum

The MasterTrack Curriculum outlines the planned topics and hours of instruction for each AGD-required topic over the eight on-site sessions planned. The corresponding breakdown of types of credit hours planned is summarized for each of the AGD-required areas.

The MasterTrack Program has been developed with many learning enhancements to make the program as meaningful as possible for the participants.

All the courses will be organized by the VCU School of Dentistry through the Office of Continuing Education at the school. Many of the courses will be provided by VCU faculty. Although the courses are primarily for MasterTrack participants, enrollment in specific courses also will be open to other registrants.

Location

Facilities at the VCU School of Dentistry or the host hotel where the participants are staying overnight will be used for lecture courses and protocol assignment presentations by participants. Hands-on courses will be conducted in the school's new state-of-the-art Mannequin Lab.

Tuition

Tuition is $1,295 for each 25-hour session and corresponding homework assignment follow-up. This includes all breakfasts, lunches, and breaks, Thursday evening reception, and a group dinner on Friday. There will be additional costs to participants for supplies for hands-on courses, travel, and overnight accommodations.

Registration Policies Specific to MasterTrack

The CE office reserves the right to end registration in the MasterTrack Program when the enrollment limit is reached and to reschedule sessions if circumstances indicate such a change is advisable. Each session requires full payment at least four weeks prior to the start date.

Cancellation Policies Specific to MasterTrack

For MasterTrack participants, due to the limited-attendance nature of the hands-on segments, case report reviews, and homework assistance, little flexibility can be offered. Full tuition refunds will not be possible. Cancellations more than a week prior to course date will be refunded tuition minus $325. No refunds will be issued for cancellation received seven days prior to the day of the course or in the instance of a no show.
