In cooperation with the Virginia Academy of General Dentistry
The VCU/VAGD MasterTrack continuing education program consists of 400 hours of hands-on
continuing dental education based on the protocol format outlined in the current
Academy of General Dentistry MasterTrack manual. Participants desiring the AGD’s
full mastership recognition must complete an additional 200 hours of continuing
dental education through other courses.
MasterTrack courses will be scheduled in two sessions of 25 hours each per year,
with each session beginning midday Thursday and ending midday Sunday. Each session
will total 50 credit hours: 25 hours of case reports by participants, on-site lectures
and hands-on participation in AGD-designated topics and 25 hours of off-site/in-office
assignments between sessions. The entire program of 400 participation hours can
be completed in eight sessions over four years.
The MasterTrack program has been developed with many learning
enhancements to make the program as meaningful as possible for the participants.
The breakdown of credit hours illustrates planned AGD-required
topics and hours of instruction for the eight on-site sessions.
All the courses will be organized by the VCU School of Dentistry through the school’s
Department of Continuing Education. Many of the courses will be provided by VCU faculty.
Although the courses are primarily for MasterTrack participants, enrollment in specific
courses also will be open to other registrants.
Facilities at the VCU School of Dentistry or the host hotel where the participants
are staying overnight will be used for lecture courses and protocol assignment presentations
by participants. Hands-on courses will be conducted in the school’s new state-of-the-art
Woolwine Simulation Lab.
Tuition for each 25-hour session and corresponding homework assignment follow-up
will be disclosed on the MasterTrack registration form that corresponds with that
session. The cost includes all breakfasts, lunches and breaks, the Thursday evening
reception and a group dinner on Friday. There will be additional costs to participants
for supplies for hands-on courses, travel and overnight accommodations.
The Department of Continuing Education reserves the right to end registration in the
MasterTrack program when the enrollment limit is reached and to reschedule sessions
if circumstances indicate such a change is advisable. Each session requires full
payment at least four weeks prior to the start date.
Due to the limited-attendance nature of the hands-on segments, case report reviews
and homework assistance, little flexibility can be offered for MasterTrack participants.
Full tuition refunds will not be possible. Cancellations made more than a week prior
to course date will be refunded tuition minus $325. No refunds will be issued for
cancellations received seven days prior to the day of the course or in the instance
of a no-show.
