The VCU School of Dentistry continues to accept students into its Advanced Standing Program in addition to those selected for its International Dentist Program.
For the Advanced Standing Program, a foreign-trained dentist may be considered for a class opening in the D2 year if they meet similar criteria required for the IDP and if a D2 class position is available. An admissions committee will judge the merits of each candidate on an individual basis.
Positions in the Advanced Standing Program will be filled with applicants to the IDP.
Guaranteed Admissions Program / Preferred Applicant Track
Each year the Guaranteed Admissions Program accepts up to 5 high school students. After completing their four-year undergraduate education at VCU, these students are guaranteed admission to the dental school.
The Preferred Applicant Track is an alternative for students already enrolled at VCU as an undergraduate. Students apply at the end of their sophomore year. If accepted and all requirements are met, those students are guaranteed admission into the VCU School of Dentistry. Up to 5 VCU students are accepted into the program each year.
For more information please visit the VCU Honors College.
International Dentist Program
The VCU School of Dentistry International Dentist Program offers internationally-trained dentists an opportunity to enter the D.D.S. program in the third year. A 16-week preparatory phase is mandatory prior to entering the third year.
For more information, please visit the IDP page.
The Virginia Commonwealth University Health Sciences and Health Careers Pipeline features programs that are offered to students from elementary school all the way through the post-baccalaureate level. Each and every program in the VCU Pipeline offers unique and interesting experiences in dentistry as well as other health professions.
For more information please visit the VCU Division for Health Sciences Diversity.
On rare instances the School of Dentistry will consider a student for transfer from a U.S. or Canadian dental school if a space is available in the desired class and a perfect match exists between the curricula of both schools.
The student must be in excellent academic standing at the transfer school and is required to have letters of evaluation from the school’s academic dean and other faculty.
In addition, the student must have a valid reason for his or her desire to transfer to the VCU School of Dentistry. He or she must not be involved or have been involved in any academic or honor code violations. Copies of a student’s original AADSAS documents may be used to support his or her transfer material. The Admissions Committee will judge each case on individual merit.
If you are interested in transferring, please fill out our Transfer Interest Form. We will contact interested individuals for additional information as needed.
